Day 5: Living Life Connected to God.

Learning Objectives:

1. To understand that we can live connected to God.

2. To learn how Jesus made our restoration possible.

Opening Question:

What other characteristics of God comes to mind?

God’s plan.

God provided a way out of forever brokenness by sending a rescuer: his son. Jesus came to live among people on earth over 2000 years ago. He lived a perfect life so that he could be the ultimate sacrifice for all the wrong in the world. He was so important in God’s plan because he would be the only way for man to be reconnected to a perfect God, and our creator.  Jesus sacrificed himself, on a cross, by carrying all our sins in his death.

Let’s read John 3:16

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him call not perish but have eternal life.  John 3:16

What does this action do for the future of man?

Because God knows you and your heart and that we have all fallen short of the glory of God because of sin, God sent His only son to live on Earth and then sent him to the cross to die for our sins.  If you believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that through him you are saved, then you will have eternally life and a reconciled relationship with him.

At this point if you have not made the most important decision you will have ever made, to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior; then the rest of this course will have very little meaning and impact.  The deep spiritual matters can be understood by those who have the Holy Spirit in their hearts, which is provide by God after acceptance of Jesus’s great gift.

The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.  1 North. 2:14

If you need to accept Christ Jesus into your heart, take the time now to read the following scriptures:

  • Romans 3:23 – All have sinned
  • Romans 6:23 – Eternal life is a FREE GIFT from God
  • Romans 5:8 – Because of love, Jesus paid the death penalty for your sins
  • Romans 10:9-10 – Confess Jesus as Lord and believe God raised Him from the dead
  • Romans 10:13 – Ask God to save you and He will

To receive the gift of eternal life you first must believe with you heart and have faith in God and his son Jesus.  To receive Christ, complete the following steps in prayer to God:

  1. Recognize that you are a sinner and that you need to build a relationship with Jesus to be saved and have eternal life.
  2. Confess to God that you have sinned and ask for forgiveness of these sins.
  3. Ask that Jesus save you by His grace.
  4. Let go of your life and give it over to Jesus.

If you have just made this decision, connect immediately with the facilitator, a Christian friend, or a pastor.  Share the good news with them and ask them for help in building your faith.  Most importantly continue to focus on God and use the Bible and a friend to help guide your walk, and always remember the Bible is the word from God for our direction.

Jesus the Cornerstone.

In Ephesians 2:20 Paul describes Christ as the cornerstone, “built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.”

So, as we talked about our cornerstone, or our center of faith, we build it with Christ being our center of focus.  We measure everything back to his character and know that it is perfect and true.

For those of you that have already received Christ, take this time to confess to God the sin in your life and ask Him to help speak to you and open your heart to his voice.

Now that you have a clean slate with God and the line of communication are open between you and Him, we can begin to piece together the adventure.

Debriefing Questions.

What would life look like knowing that you have a relationship with the Creator of the Universe?

       or

What was your life like without this relationship, if you have been a follower of Jesus for some time?
